| Rajesh Khanna is the First Superstar of Hindi Bollywood cinema. Indian film industry had many successful and highly talented actors in 1950s and sixtees inclding Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Rajendra kumar etc. but the term 'Superstar' was never used for anyone untill the phenomenon called Rajesh Khanna happened in Hindi Bollywood film Industry.
Rajesh Khanna ruled box office and millions of hearts as a superstar between 1969 (Aaradhana) to 1974 (Roti, Aapki Kasam). During these 5 years he was an unbeatable force at box office working in some of the best all time superhit bollywood movies and singing extreamly popular romantic songs.
After 1974 Rajesh Khanna kept working in movies but he lost Superstar tag due to the rise of Amitabh Bachchan who would later go on to become the second and Last superstar of Bollywood. Movie experts and pundits also agrees that Indian film industry has seen only two superstars till date. After Amitabh's decline post 1983, No one achieved superstar status.
